Our Team
SEKAR PALANIANDY
Sekar was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1992. During his early years of practice in Malacca, he focused on general civil litigation and personal injury claims. He then moved to Kuala Lumpur where he spent many years specializing in corporate and company matters. Armed with this experience, he returned to Malacca and opened his own legal practice handling motor insurance claims and corporate matters.
Sekar has conducted trials at all levels and appeals right up to the Federal Court, and he is often appointed as Counsel for matters in the Appellate Courts. Of late, he and Jaspal have successfully represented insurance companies in defending a number of fraudulent claims. In addition, his qualification as a Certified Mediator has assisted clients and parties in avoiding protracted and time-consuming litigation which has been the hallmark of his legal practice.
Despite a busy work schedule, Sekar managed to serve the Malacca Bar and was appointed as Chairman for a number of sub-committees, including Professional Practice and Development, Conveyancing Practice, and Sports. Sekar is also a member of the Bar Council Ad Hoc Committee for the Amendments to the Legal Profession Act 1976.
JASPAL SINGH GILL
Jaspal was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1996. He initially started out as a general civil litigator, but later developed a passion for personal injury litigation and employment disputes. Over the years, his expertise has been sought by fellow lawyers and clients. Of late, he and Sekar have successfully represented insurance companies in defending a number of fraudulent claims. He also currently advises companies on employment matters with the aim to minimize protracted litigation.
Jaspal’s passion for the Bar led to his appointment as the Malacca Bar Representative to the Bar Council from 2009 to 2011, and again in 2016. In 2017, he was elected as the Malacca Bar Chairman. He is the current Co-Chair for the Personal Injury Claims Committee (PICC) and Industrial and Employment Law Committee (IELC) at Bar Council. Jaspal successfully completed the Advocacy Teacher Training Course in 2011 and is currently an advocacy trainer under the Bar Council Advocacy Training Committee.
Outside the courtroom, Jaspal is a keen sportsman. He was the Chairman of the Bar Council Sports Committee for 3 terms, and in recognition of his contribution to sports, he was conferred the Malaysian Sports Personality Award in 2012. He is also the Vice President and Legal Advisor to Malacca Badminton Association.
SURENDRAN CHELVARAJAH
Surendran was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2001. Before he was called to the Bar, he served as an Industrial Relations Officer with the National Union of Commercial Workers. In this capacity, he played a key role in negotiating collective agreements and mediating employer-employee disputes. After setting up his legal practice in 2005, he developed a passion for courtroom battles and became a prominent litigator in motor insurance disputes as well as criminal matters.
Surendran has served the Bar in various capacities and was selected to represent the Malaysian Bar at the Commonwealth Law Conference in Melbourne, Australia in 2003. He has served as a legal adviser to several associations and private bodies.
On a personal note, Surendran is a fun-loving and outdoor chap who loves travelling.
THE ASSOCIATES

Shobashini Devi Pillay
Upon graduation from the Multimedia University, Shoba commenced her pupilage in Messrs Sekar Gill & C Suren under the guidance of Mr. Sekar Palaniandy. In 2013, she was admitted as an Advocates and Solicitors in the High Court of Malaya and was retained as an Associate. Throughout her pupilage and years in practice as a lawyer, Shoba has been exposed to Motor Insurance Personal Injury Litigation at all levels, from drafting of pleadings, the preparation of opinions up to conducting trials in the Subordinate Courts and appeals at the High Court.
She is passionate about her profession and has served the Malacca Bar Committee member since 2018, and is the current Chair for the Professional Standards and Development Committee (PSDC) of the Malacca Bar.
She immerses herself in reading law reports during her free time, as she feels that keeping abreast of the latest developments in law is the best way to serve the firm’s clientele. Her expansive research skills make her a much sought after person in the firm whenever authorities on particular points of law are required.

Nur Azrina Binti Wa Chek
Nur Azrina attained her Bachelor of Law in 2010 from the International Islamic University Malaysia and was admitted to the Malaysian Bar as Advocates and Solicitor in 2011. She commenced practice in a firm specializing in personal injury litigation and slowly found a niche in acting for insurance companies in defending personal injury claims. In January 2015, she joined the firm’s branch office in Sungai Petani.
Nur Azrina’s experience in handling personal injury litigation has seen her conducting trials and a multitude of contested applications in the Subordinate Courts. She has a keen eye for detail and keeps a sharp look out for any claims that may be suspicious in nature, either from the evidence given or the genuineness of the claim itself. She also drafts pleadings and Opinions for the Sungai Petani branch.
Outside her legal practice, she is an easy going person who loves to travel for food.
